Last night, Newmarket Community Choir welcomed Chris Bruerton from the Kings Singers as part of our first “Social” evening with the group.
Chris started the night off with a vocal warmup before giving us a workshop on our Christmas repertoire; covering breathing, blending, diction as well as improving the overall sound of the group.
Chris is a close friend of our director, Rob Cross and it was great that he found some time in his busy schedule to spend the evening with us.
One of our members said: “Fantastic night with Chris from the Kings Singers! Some great tips to keep us on top of our game!”
COME BACK SOON!
We were featured in the paper again this week with news about our work with the charity “Sing For Your Life”.
We are hoping to raise enough money to buy a Silver Song Music Box for the region with it being sent out to care homes in and around Newmarket to help with the wellbeing of Dementia, Parkinson’s or stroke sufferers.
The positive benefits of singing on our health and wellbeing are increasingly being documented. Some of the key findings over the past few years are that it:
- provides excellent cognitive stimulation therapy
- helps reduce stress & anxiety whilst increasing energy levels
- provides an inclusive activity (specially for those who are socially isolated)
- provides an effective reminiscence experience
- provides an inter-generational opportunity
We are excited that we can be a part of the fundraising for this wonderful charity and hope that we can reach our target and further help the local community.
We’ve now ticked over into the final quarter of the year and mince pies are already in the entrances of supermarkets all over Suffolk and so it is time to tell you about a few of our Christmas performances and projects that will be happening very soon.
With the choir being such a big part of the community, we are planning two evenings out where we visit some local care homes and spread some Christmas cheer. Hopefully, this year, the weather won’t get the better of us!
We’re also in the final stages of planning our Christmas concert and there will be more on that in due course … stay tuned!
The choir will also be appearing at Tattersalls’ Christmas bash on Friday 13th December. As soon as we have the timings, they’ll be up on our “Events” page.
For something a little different, our Director is currently seeking the help of local artists & musicians to help record a charity single this year for Christmas.
The lyrics are in and a song is currently being composed. There will soon be a call to arms for all local musicians to take part and help raise a bit of money this Christmas.
To all artistic Newmarket residents … your choir needs YOU!
We are hoping to record a newly composed Christmas song that will be released to help raise money for our chosen local charity. We are looking to get instrumentalists, artists, lyricists and everything in-between involved in this fun project!
Recording sessions will take place throughout a few evenings in November and, if you feel you can help in some way, do please get in touch: email@example.com
The Newmarket Community Choir were featured in the Newmarket News again due to our efforts at the Darley July Cup day at the races on Saturday.
The article read:
Voices echoed across the July course as a choir gave the performance of a lifetime on Saturday.
Newmarket Community Choir were in good voice as they dazzled race goers with the “Really Big Sing”, where they performed at different spots across the course before finishing the day at the Winner’s Enclosure.
The group have been practicing for months in preparation for their performance at the Darley Cup Day, the culmination of the famous July Festival race meeting.
As we get ever closer to the Big Sing Event on Saturday 13th July, Newmarket News got in touch with one of our members to ask them about how the preparations were going.
We will be singing around the racecourse throughout the day so do come and say “hello”!
